Promoting Safety, Protecting Health, Ensuring Compliance

The office of Environmental Health and Safety  (EH&S) oversees regulatory compliance and worker safety issues for the University. Included within those areas are employee training for workers at occupational risk, trench and hotwork permitting, ergonomic accommodations, hazardous and universal waste compliance, indoor air quality, asbestos and mold management, and safety-related inspections.

Westfield State University maintains an environment that will not adversely affect the health and safety of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The University gives a high priority and appropriate support to programs and policies in support of eliminating hazards that are a threat to the health and safety of personnel or property. To aid in this endeavor, the University has given authority to EH&S to design, implement, and maintain a comprehensive program to ensure the health, safety, and environmental protection of the University.

Workplace Safety and Environmental Protection

EH&S uses inspections, interdepartmental collaboration, regulatory compliance, systems design, and planning and training to help personnel prevent accidents, property damage, and incidence that could place people, property, or the environment at risk. EH&S responds to a broad range of concerns, including leaks, odors, spills, life safety issues, health and sanitation concerns, indoor air quality, pest control, and public health concerns.
