Alexander MooreAssistant Professor of Mathematics
Biography
Dr. Alexander Moore has been on the Mathematics faculty of Westfield State since 2023. He is happiest when he is either reading, writing, or working with his students. His research focuses heavily on Lacanian Psychoanalysis (in the Brazilian orientation), Continental Philosophy, and applications of Pure Mathematics, Science and Technology Studies, and Literature to speculate about his classroom practice and the unconscious. Before completing his Ph.D., he was a middle school mathematics teacher for six years. Nowadays, he teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics, statistics, and mathematics education, primarily through a psychoanalytic method of Active Learning. He was named a Laura Bassi Scholar for one chapter of his doctoral dissertation. His major theoretical contributions are the concepts of mathematics psychosis, masculine-quilted-speech, and the psychoanalytic ethics of mathematics education. Through his research, he desires to produce change with his actual students and his actual classroom.
