Prepare to become a leader in mental health nursing through our Master of Science in Nursing – Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) program at Westfield State University. The program prepares nurses for advanced practice in psychiatric and mental health care across the lifespan. The curriculum emphasizes strong clinical reasoning, integrated treatment planning, and real-world readiness for independent practice.
Through a combination of advanced nursing theory and specialized coursework, students develop expertise in psychiatric assessment, differential diagnosis, psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and mental health policy. Students complete a combination of coursework and supervised clinical practicum experiences, building the competencies needed to provide evidence-based, compassionate care in diverse settings. The didactic portion of the program is delivered online, offering added flexibility for working professionals.
Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to sit for the national PMHNP certification exam through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), paving the way for advanced clinical practice in the mental health field.
